"Food is the soul of Goa".... This reality was understood and implemented in the correct essence in the early 1940's by the visionary late Rajaram Chanekar of Bicholim.
The founder of this five decades young enterprise Rajaram Chanekar also known as Rajo Chanekar founded this present day CHANEKAR CLASSIC in the quaint and scenic town of Bicholim.
Then, popularly known as "Rajyale Khaje" Rajaram, ventured into strarting an enterprise and made a humble beginning with a small manual unit which was run domestically by the members of the family pooling in all their resources and effort.
Rajo as he was lovingly called specialised in making "Khaje" which was the only item he specialised in as built his business on.
This tasty goan savoury made at Rajyale Khaje was identified by its amazing taste and its unique style of packing.
No one could miss the flavour of this items which came in loosely packed big sizes fresh leaves.

"Khaje" is like a signature savoury available typically in Goa, around the times that Temples of Goa celebrates their Jatrostav or the Zatra.
As a broad explaination khaje is made out of Besan atta batter is rolled into sticks and fried. It is then dipped in jaggery surup which has a ginger element and white til in the surup which gets coated on to the khaje.
The sweet taste of jagrey and the slight hint of ginger is what sets the taste of khaje apart from other authenic savouries of Goa.
Years rolled by after this young and energetic entrepreneur with a dream & a vision took up this initative.
Following his footsteps in the 1980's was his son Sitaram Chanekar also known as Bhau Chanekar.
By now, having had a strong base to his credit Bhau Chanekar took his fathers dream a little ahead by not only continuing but also improvising on this venture.
Creating and satisfying the local pallette was already in the family.
Sitaram alias Bhau Chanekar along side authentic savouries like Shev, Chivda and different types of Ladoos, now, also introduced " Chanekar Classic"- The productline which included authentic Goan Masalas.
Rajyale Khaje now came to be rebranded as "Chanekar Classic" and was no longer restricted to the boundries of Goa..
By then Sitaram Chanekar's son Rajaram Chanekar( junior) along side his Engineering education started giving inputs and helping his father to upscale the venture Chanekar classic
In 2015, this third generation enterprise started being being looked after by Sitaram Chanekar's son, Rajaram Chanekar junior.
Named after his grandfather Rajaram Chanekar an Engineer by profession, chose to quit his plush cushiony corporate job give wider wings to the vision of his grandfather,( Rajaram Chanekar) which was further improvised upon, by his father(Sitarm Chanekar)
Rajaram took over the reins of Chanekar Classic only to give the entrprise a better infrastructure and customer base not only in Goa but beyon India as well.
In the year 2015 Rajaram Chanekar took the initiative and applied for GI classification for the Khaje. Just a year later Rajaram successfully acquired a GI tag for the Goan Khaje and is legally authorised to used this GI tag
Today Rajaram not only ably handles this three generations old business but has also made a lot of innovations in business strategies to keep up to the fierce competition in food business.
This venture still operates from the same place where it was started...that is besides the house where the Chanekars have their home in the beautiful town of Bicholim.
He has made this venture a partially mechanised one by introducing modern equipments and machinary for pre- prepreation of the savouries so as to save on time.
But most of the important procedurces like frying etc is still done of wood stocked fire which maintains the flavour and enhances the taste of the savoury items.
Rajaram Chanekar, the third generation entrepreneur of this venture transformed this into the most renowned and reliable name in India’s food and confectionary industry.
